A threshold is approaching. Websites are shifting from treating agents as adversaries to serving them as customers. We're not there yet, but the direction is unmistakable. The web spent two decades optimizing for human eyes. The next phase recognizes that agents represent human intent, just expressed differently.

Living in the Liminal Space

Organizations will spend months, maybe years, in an awkward liminal state. Parallel systems serving different interaction models. Human-facing UI optimized for visual browsing. Product leaders will make strategic bets on which interaction model becomes primary.
The ambiguity creates friction. But it also creates space for experimentation. Organizations freed from the assumption that "website = human interface" can reimagine what web presence means. Some will discover that explicit structure serves both humans and agents better than clever visual design. Others will find that cooperation reveals customer intent more clearly than resistance ever did.

The web's implicit structure becomes explicit. Sites that currently force agents to guess their organization will expose it deliberately. Authentication flows designed to frustrate bots will transform into agent-friendly protocols with clear rate limits and usage terms. The infrastructure challenge shifts from circumventing resistance to managing scale, observability, and contract compliance.
What we're describing here isn't agents replacing human users. We're watching the web recognize that it serves multiple types of intelligence and needs infrastructure that acknowledges this reality rather than fighting it. The sites that cross this threshold first will define what "web presence" means in an agent-mediated world.
The inflection point arrives when cooperation becomes the obvious choice, not the exception. When "works seamlessly with agents" becomes a feature sites advertise rather than a vulnerability they patch. When websites stop asking "how do we block bots?" and start asking "how do we serve all our customers well?"
