Deno Desktop Just Made "Ship It as an App" a One-Liner

Deno v2.9.0 drops Deno Desktop in canary, and it's dominating developer conversation this Monday. The feature turns any Deno project into a self-contained desktop binary for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Cross-compile from one machine. Built-in auto-updates via binary diff. Framework auto-detection for nine frameworks including Next.js, Astro, SvelteKit, and Nuxt. The collective groan about Electron's bloat and Tauri's Rust requirement has been building for years, and Deno just walked into that gap with something opinionated enough to actually use.

What the AI Model Landscape Looks Like Today
Happy Monday. The frontier model race has entered a phase where quarterly planning feels almost nostalgic.
- Six months ago, three companies credibly defined "frontier." That number is expanding fast enough that the word itself needs regular updating. Open-weight models are closing the gap in ways that felt theoretical a year ago.
- China announced a $295 billion, five-year AI infrastructure plan in mid-June. That works out to roughly $59 billion per year. For scale, the entire US CHIPS Act allocated $52.7 billion total.
- The White House executive order from three weeks ago includes voluntary early government access to models up to 30 days before public release. First compliance deadlines hit in about ten days.
- Polymarket has active prediction contracts on multiple simultaneous model launches. AI releases are a spectator sport with real money attached.
A lot moving at once. Here's the picture.
