Hugging Face Is Shopping Itself for $13 Billion, and the Buyer List That Doesn't Break It Is Very Short

Hugging Face has retained a bank to explore a sale at $13 billion or more, nearly tripling its 2023 valuation. No buyer identified, no deal reached — this is early-stage exploration. But the timing is loud: the company turned down $500M from Nvidia at a $7B valuation late last year specifically to protect its independence, and now it's looking for a full exit. This lands days after Stripe closed its $8B+ acquisition of OpenRouter, making it the second major AI infrastructure platform to hit the market in a week. The neutral layer of AI is suddenly up for grabs.
